For those of you who don't use facebook, I didn't want you to miss out on this one!!
The "Mindful Dressage with Steffen Peters" lesson series that aired earlier in the year was a beautiful example of what can be achieved at high levels of dressage when gentle, force-free training methods are used.
I was so excited when I came across this competition video of Steffen and Legolas!!

It's beautiful to watch and a great vidoe to refer "skeptics" to when they say "you cant teach them anything without force". HA! I don't see too many people that say that stuff to me at Olympic level dressge :P
Sounds good off to look it up on youtube now. Non violent methods are not just for non-aspirational riders. Thank you
Thanks for sharing this Rahni - what a beautiful horse Legolas is and yes, evidence of no need for violence at any level, pleasure or competition
Interesting how he's wearing a helmet and not the top hat they normally wear!
Top hats don't protect your brain in a fall, there's been a few terrible accidents with professionnal dressage riders lately and a huge campaign to promote safety helmets for upper level dressage riders. They're actually developping a safety top hat right now, it's pretty neat.
Whoops! My heading was supposed to read: "(this is the video you show those people who DON'T support Monty!!)"
But I think you all go the message :)
it is always pleasure to see such a good communication between horse and the rider, especially on high levels of dressage. Steffen is simply guiding Legolas, no forcing at any point. the only thing that bothered me a bit is tail switching... any comment on that?
I would like to see a nice looking top hat helmet!
mustang.girl, you noticed the tail swishing, I thought Legolas looks not quite himself in this video especially at trot, less lift and suspension in the front than usual. This video
http://youtu.be/-y-Bwn03sb8?t=5m1s (a few minutes in at the trot) or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-y-Bwn03sb8 (whole video)
is more like what Legolas normally looks. More liberated, especially through the shoulder, less tail swishing, more comfortable. Hard to say though, only a few minute clips
