Hi smithtj17!
Welcome to the Uni! I hope you will enjoy your stay here.

In answer to your question I would suggest that you start at the very top with "Watch me first" and "Monty's Mission" to get a good grasp of what this Uni is all about and what to expect. After that I thin the Join-up/Follow-up lessons is always the first thing to do. Maybe you don't need to do this with your horse, but it is so essential and basic to everything else that Monty Roberts does, that you need to assimilate this into your thinking when it comes to working with horses Monty's way.

I can't recall any lessons on learning tricks - if you mean the circus variety with bowing down etc - , but there are several ones on ground work which all builds on the same principles of incremental, PICNIC and starting at a point where the horse can begin to understand what you ask of it and build from there.

Hi & welcome. Kicki is right. Start at the beginning & work your way through the lessons. You will find a theme running through them. Horses will come to trust us if we treat them fairly & without violence. They synchronise with us - when we are angry, excited or nervous they respond likewise. They react to our body language & our breathing so it's important that we control ourselves in order to communicate with them. Horses are super learners so if we, the supposedly intelligent ones, can engineer the situation so the horse calmly chooses the easiest option ( the behaviour we want ) learning becomes fast. It is necessary to make learning incremental - broken down into short segments so the horse can understand & be greatly praised for multiple successes. Each increment or step works as a building block that supports the end result. However, there is one steadfast rule - you need to have fun doing this & moreover you should ensure that your horse has fun too. Good luck & keep us posted. Cheers, Jo.
