Trailer Issue

Our horse has been trailered, but not for two years and not alone. He went in just fine and rode to the next barn to get another horse. It was an unknown barn and horse to him. He kicked and put up such a fuss that he was dripping sweat and cut his leg even though the other horse never even got to enter the trailer. We decided to go back home. What did we do wrong?

Hi Kathy, so sorry for this experience. It sounds like the whole process was a bit overwhelming for him. Monty really encourages regular practicing of processes like loading on the trailer - even if you have no place you NEED to go. The experience is good practice for your horse and you. Plan for emergencies and non-emergencies alike.

I hope you get another try at this soon - no agenda.
