What I say to my friends who don’t understand why I’m doing this

Sucess is the loudest answer

Hello!

I am not as mature as many of the people that contribute to the forum, but already my friends and I have arguments over the best way to treat our horses. Out of seven of us, I am the only one who uses Monty's methods, whereas the others use either conventional methods or other 'horse-whisperer's' techniques. However this does not prevent us listening to our horses. One of my friends does not class herself as a natural horsewoman, but she has an exceptionally close relationship with her horse- she simply is a natural at communicating to animals. I usually try to avoid conflict with my friends (and total strangers!) over these issues however some of my critics have been silenced simply by the sucess I have been having. From day one, instructors, people I've met at shows and at other yards have classed my horse as difficult. Many people thought that he was too much for me- others classed him as dangerous! However by reaching out to him and forming a relationship with him, all that I achieve in the dressage arena has silenced the whispers behind my back. My horse and I have such a close bond that it shines through when others are having difficulty with their horses. Mistakes that I make are forgiven by him, and I haven't had an argument with him for longer than I can remember. While others struggle and get into conflict with their horses, our mutual trust and respect carries the load of our differences. Now the horse that many deemed unmaneageble has won rosettes at a national championship and we made our affiliated debut at the weekend. So the message is- don't give up. Every horse deserves a relationship with it's rider, and with some you can get more than you ever dreamed of. Don't listen when people say you can't - mostly, you can! What I have with my horse is the most amazing thing, and I know we can all share this with our horses. I just thought I'd put this on the forum to prove what fantastic things a relationship can lead to. Please have fun with your riding and your horses!

Hello!

Thanks Maggie- it's only by sharing our experiences will we help other people to understand how wonderful it is to become part of the herd and experience a trusting relationship with an equine. Does anyone else have a story to share?

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed

EllieandMyler,
One of my horses(the one in my picture(Maisy)) has always been classed as to much for me, i bought her when she was four and although she was very experienced, she still had a lot to learn in the way of self control. Since i first started learning to ride i have always had the same riding teacher and just from the disappointment on her face when i told her that i had bought a four year old i could tell that she thought that i was absolutely mad! It has been just over two years now since i first bought Maisy and my riding teacher still thinks that both i and the pony are mad for choosing each other, but last week in one of my lessons Maisy, for the first time in two years did a normal paced walk&trot!,(the canter was too much to ask though) but even though the canter was maisy's usual mad canter my riding teacher actually said "She (Maisy) is finally acting her age!" and also "Your (being me) controlling her really well" and it was those words that gave me the extra strength and pride to join Monty's Uni so that i and both of my horses could do anything!
I just thought that this story would be a good story to share and hopefully inspirational to others,
Ellie

Hello!

Thanks for sharing this with us Ellie- it's really wonderful when people continue with horses that may be deemed impossible in a calm and natural way- fantastic! Well done for your work with Maisy, I'm sure she'll be the most amazing riding horse!
