Thought this section of the forum would be best to post.
Wanted to apologize for being off the radar for the last couple of months. I've been having issues with the farmer where I rent land. when I first saw him a couple of years ago, I told him I was going to build my horse business and he agreed yep I can have as many horses as I wanted and build my business, that I can have more land as I grew my herd.
Things started to change though over the summer months, he only has agricultural license even though he has over 50 horses on the land, the locals have complained and he's had to go through planning but is fighting it as the rates will be much higher for him if is equine use. The planning have nearly agreed to agriculture but there is to be no horse businesses on the land. This puts 3 of us using the land in a difficult position. He's banned me from working with any more horses, won't let me advertise, demanded he see me ride as he's never seen me ride ( that's another story as I'm disabled and haven't ridden in 3 years :-) ) and doesn't believe I know a thing about horses, believes horse whispering is stupid and has said everything I've done, creating a round pen, building horse pens to manage the land better is all stupid and has to stop now. All the wood I've collected over the last year through recycling he's told me to burn as it's rubbish. He's been quite abusive over this.
So, I'm looking for somewhere where I can build my business. Big job on a zero budget, but as one door closes another always opens.
Just wanted to apologies that I've not put much in on the forum.
Hope you're all well!
Mel

Hi Mel. So sorry for your troubles. Hey, when life deals lemons, make lemonaid. This is an ideal opportunity to go better. If I can help, from Britain, let me know. Life is always a bit this way. Have a little sum in hand so possibly can help. Cheers, Jo.
Hi Mel
It is a problem in the UK that horses are not seen as agricultural. It is controversial but the only way they would be seen as agricultural is if we ate them (we are only one of a handful of countries that does not eat horsemeat generally).
:
While he has no right to be abusive towards you and certainly no right to demand to see you ride or do anything else I sympathise with yours and his frustration over our antiquated and dreary planning regulations.

I hope you find a solution soon.
Made me smile Jo, like lemonade :D Positive thoughts guys, thank you and yes agree it's time to go better.

Feel for you Mel!! Type Horse grazing Planning Permission into your search engine. Look for an article from the Farmers Guardian, came up on the top of the list on mine, worth a read. Farmer cannot insist you burn all the bits of wood you've collected, possibly to dismantle the structures.. Nor can he ask to see you ride. Good luck.
Oh Mel that's awful!!
Really feel for you. I wish had had advice for you but this kind of thing is new ball game for me too (my boyfriend and i want to buy land to build an eco house on and have our own yard) and so far I'm pretty lost! But what i do have is support!! Is there anywhere you can keep your wood, supplies etc until you find somewhere else and so it's safe?
If you need any help with it all just let me know! You've come so far and you will find somewhere to continue on! x x
Thanks guys, I'll have a look and read Tiggy.
I've managed to tidy the wood all into one very large pile behind my own built tack room and covered it all up. This has taken it away from view. Farmer has been past a couple of times, so he'll see the cleared area near the front.
All quiet at the moment, so I can get back to training :D
