As I'm watching the videos over and over I see how much Star has needed Monty's method. I can see that others just won't work with her.
She is spooky Kadina, Big Brown and Georgia all mixed together.
Like Monty says she won't forget but She can be helped to not be so head shy, spooky and reactive.
She has come a long way but I often wonder if she will ever trust enough to allow me on her back.
I wish with all my heart she had been born here and not have gone to a slaughter house and then horse a dealer to be used roughly.
How can a human love a horse this much and feel her pain and anxiety. It's almost as if I live inside of her.
When we were together today and she didn't mind the dually, for a change, I used her plastic bags on the stick and I was amazed that not only did she allow me to rub her all over she was playing with them with her mouth.
She loves every little bit of time I spend with her and seems so grateful that we would treat her the way we do.
If I could afford it I would take her to Amanda and have her train her to be calm and get on her back.
I have never had a horse like this one, yet I have never been so close to another animal as I am with her.

Ronda, I understand the feelings you have. The love you and Star have for each other will get the 2 of you through, I know it will. You are making a lot of progress with her, it shows. You are just too close to see it clearly. Keep on with what you are doing, it will get the results you want, but will take time. You share her feelings and that is what will help more than anything. Trust, complete trust, for an animal that has been abused, takes sometimes quite awhile to earn, but be assured, you ARE earning Stars trust.

Ronda, you've done great with Star, I've watched you on your videos, she seems to really trust you, so give her time, and I'm sure she will let you on her back.

Thank you guys. I'll keep slugging in there and I am very thankful she is so patient with me.
It brought such joy to my heart tonight when I went to put her to bed for the night.
There she was at the bottom of her paddock and walked up to her stall box with me, waiting at her fence for her rub.
She kind of closes her eyes when I rub her.
Monty said on one of the videos that they get a softness in their face when they are relaxed and that is so true.

Ronda, You have achieved so much with star already and she is in very capable hands! Never doubt your abilities either. We are always learning but never let that thought create a lack of confidence in yourself. Your little star trusts you completely, i see that in your videos! Together you two will achieve so much and i am 100 mpercent confident that she WILL let you on her back and you will have many happy years of riding.

Hi Ronda,

I just wanted to echo what so many (above) have said. You have done such a wonderful job with Star - just remember that no matter how hard it is for Star to heal she will do so with your love and support. She is a lucky girl to have found you.

You have been so helpful to so many people (myself included) on this forum so I hope we can cheer you on and offer our support to you now.

Keep the faith and give Star a hug from us all.

Ronda, I have an idea, Monty uses dummies when he trains a horse to accept a rider, maybe u can do this with Star.

She has so much energy and mine is running out.
I will definetly use a dummy. Her name will be Josephine.
I also am looking into a professional jocky. We live near a large horse racing community.
I will ask him to do join-up with her first and then we will see.
