It's been a long time since I wrote on the forum, I hope you all have had a nice Christmas and new year.
I haven't posted for a while because we have moved house, we moved to the south of Denmark about 10 minutes from the German border, near a town called Tønder.
The move went very Well, Shilo loaded in to the trailer with no problem, and the ride went well, even though I really don't like driving with the horse trailer , I always imagine everything that could go wrong!
Now my 4 horses are living in horse heaven, we have a beautiful very large stable which we have made into one huge box where my angels live and sleep together, also it's a loose drift which means that they come in and out of the stable as they wish, so they are very free.only in very bad weather I shut them in at night.
Shilo and I haven't trained so much over the past few months but now we have made a training area and so we can start again- tomorrow!!
We left off where Shilo came back from the mustang farm after behavioral training, I rode him at walk with bit a few times and then we moved house. So I'm excited for tomorrow to find out how much he can remember, I might even get a little ride out of him... let's see.
Nothing drastic has happened, though moving is a big deal for the horses, well, at least they are still all together. Amira is still alive, she will be 21 this year, she seems to be enjoying her pension, she is not being ridden, her leg seems to be better but she is very stiff. The cateracs in her eyes haven't got any worse, so I hope she keeps going for many more years.she seems content and happy.
Shilo, Marco and Mammut are still naughty, curious happy and silly !
All is well her in Denmark.
Well, that's all for now, I'll keep you posted.
Best regards from Dionne , Denmark
One good thing ( or one of the many good things ) about the move is that our new house is situated near to a road where there comes traffic and people on bikes and so on, at our old house there was NOTHING so it was difficult to introduce Shilo to noise and other people without having to walk for miles to the nearest village. We are not so cut off from society here, which is good for Shilo because he was a big scaredy pants, afraid of alot of things.
And just on another topic.... we have about 10000000000 swans in the fields surrounding our house! They live here over the winter, and am not kidding about the number, wow it's certainly a sight to behold when they all fly up in the air at one time, I'll try to video it and put it on YouTube so that you all can see this sight.
Good to see you back and so well!
Happy to read about your move and your horses living in their own heaven...
How do the horses react to the swans when all fly up at once?
Having these migrating bird, like swans, geese and wild ducks is my version of paradise.
I assume you had bad weather like we had too, so your ride probably had to wait.
I just checked where you live now, it's a little over 200 km from Hamburg, seems around the corner!!!
Looking forward to your posts on Shilo and your progress together!
Miriam
Shilo and the others don't react to the swans, they only react if a big articulated lorry drives past at speed, funny really because the noise from the thousands of wings flapping is really loud and of course they honk at each other too, I think it's really fascinating, there are some signets with them too...(?) I read that we are getting the swans that migrate from Norway and Sweden, the Danish swans migrate to the Netherlands, and the Dutch swans migrate further south so it's like a chain reaction.
Anyway, yes, my ride has to wait, it's just really miserable weather today, I could of course just saddle up and get on with it, but I don't think we would get much out of it, Shilo doesn't like the rain in his face, so, more patience required.
I too think it is a paradise here, it's very flat , just like Holland, and it's marsh lands all around with all sorts of wildlife, the horses like it because they can see around them for miles so they must feel safer? I think I read that somewhere. We have cob fields all around the house - so there are free treats to Shilo and the gang in the autumn. !
My husband , my daughter and I spent New Year's Eve in the stable together with the horses, we locked them in that evening because of the risk of stray fireworks, and we found out that both Shilo and Amira can dance! We had the radio turned up with some good music on and a bucket of New Year's Eve carrots and they swayed left right left right and so on( I know that they were begging) but it was funny because it was in time with the music..
ha ha...this post has nothing to do with training!! I had better stop !
All the best
Dionne.
So glad it's all going well for you; you've come a long way to get over that rainbow :-)
Sounds wonderful. Dionne - all of it!!!
Good to hear from you.
