Does anyone know why a horse scrambles whilst being floated. If so, how do you go about fixing it without buying a angle load float

HI it usually means they can't spread their back legs out far enough which is why as you say the angle load float is one solution. What you can do is get a three quarter quarter bar which will angle the central partition of a double float and hold it solid. We had this problem with our big 16.2hh mare and as she was excellent at self loading we didn't want to put her off so sold our float as we realised she was too long for it. She has hip and sciatica problems now which we are trying to remedy so it is important you do something about it as we were told once they start scrambling it's hard to get them to stop. You can only use this as a solution if they travel alone though. Another excellent solution is if you can get a backwards float-Rice build one and it's on my wish list. Horses travel much more comfy backwards as they don't have to brace themselves in the same way. Their heart rate is lower on arrival too. Hope this helps.
wow!! thank you so much. Thats a big help, we always take two horses so i am thinking may have upgrade to an angle float. Never heard of a rice built float, will google it.
Cheers
