With winter approaching where I live and it getting colder, windier and spookier should this affect my routine and riding or things I should be doing? I'm less confident in the winter than summer because of the weather, so any tips greatly appreciated.

Hi. There is a saying in Scotland - no such thing as bad weather only those poorly prepared. Make sure you have good cold, wet weather gear so you & your horse can be as comfortable & visible as possible. Use the Uni spooky stuff to ensure your horse is fully prepared for wind etc. Plan your rides to avoid really exposed or potentially dangerous places - nothing good about riding the rim of a quarry in a gale and heavy storm. Be flexible. If the weather is bad then do something different, try new things so you & your horse are mentally stimulated, not mentally exhausted & terrified. Remember Montys 2nd rule - being with horses should be fun ( & the 1st rule - that the horse should have fun ). Take care & stay safe. Cheers, Jo
Good advice from Jo, I would also say listen to what your horse is telling you. My little fella (not ridden) is beautifully behaved but he was semi feral when I got him and he has retained that vigilance and watchfulness when the wind is high - he is very jittery so I am always extra careful with him if I have to do anything.
Thank you Vicci and Jo, I will take your advice! The Uni spooky stuff looks great. I have an IH instructor coming to help me in September as I am new to Monty's methods so will ask if we can spend some time on that aspect. My horse has been a superstar so far so hopefully with that preparation and me being sensible, we will sail through winter enjoying ourselves. Thanks again Nicola
