Hi, I am in Canberra, Australia. I have recently bought a dually halter for my 9 yr old OTT mare. I have had her for nearly 2.5 yrs. We work very well together, but I want her ground manners to be better. She was very anxious and head shy when I first got her, but that is now mostly resolved. A couple of days ago, I was doing the leading with the dually, as shown by Monty, and I quickly had my mare leading at my shoulder (her walking in front of me has often been an issue), I had her stopping when I stop as well as backing up, but when I attempted to walk off quickly, she was left behind and as soon as she felt the pressure of the lead rope, she pulled back, I held on hoping she would give to the pressure, but then she reared and fell over! It gave us both a big shock. She got herself up off the ground and immediately came to me, head lowered, and nuzzled into me for comfort (I thought she would run away). I felt awful and I stayed with her, stroking her shoulder until she had relaxed. For that reason, I signed up to Monty’s university to work out what I did wrong? Any suggestions? Thank you in advance
