I would love to see a lesson how to train a good packhorse. What to do, what not to do. I do a lot of trail riding and often it would be very nice to have a second horse with me. Even for a normal "everyday ride" I would like to take a second horse with me.

I don't know much about packhorses but a bit about pony-up with a horse.
Maybe it is close, I'm not sure.
I was surprised with my little mare when her "friend" a huge QH came over.
Jannah was riding, Bandit and Star took right to him. I thought, oh boy she won't like another horse around, but she surprised me and Jannah.
She did her "fancy" dance, so beautiful and then followed him wherever they went, right close to him.
Every once and a while she would move to the front and dance in front of him but mostly she followed.
I think if we train them to lead properly on the ground perhaps they will follow more easily when tied to our saddle.
Jannah sometimes takes both of her horses when she trail rides. She rides one, one way and the other back. Good practise for them and helps to keep them calm.
Perhaps someone can tell you how to "loadup" the horse so it will be easy on their backs??
Sounds interesting and fun to me, too.
Thank you so much for theses ideas star. Yes, lets see, maybe somebody has an idea how to "load" a horse the right way? For example for a normal day ride, do you have your saddle bag right on your horses back? Or do you get a larger saddle pad to have it under the saddle bag? Or without a saddle what kind of saddle bag do you take for longer trips if you "use" a second horse just for things to carry?
