Hi, I've had my mare for about 6 months now. We've been taking it slowly with the lorry, taking her on tiny journeys and she's been great. We took her on a slightly longer journey to a show, about 30 minutes away. She was fine though did get a bit excited at the show at first, soon settled down. It was a hot night and we've since found out, she was coming into season. She now freaks when I put her in the lorry and go to shut the partition. We're going back a stage, to feeding her in there every night for a week then slowly moving the partition over. Why would she have done this do you think, and what would you suggest?

Hi Maxine. Sorry your mare is having an issue. I'm assuming your lack of accreditations is that you're new to the Uni or you've not taken Monty's Challange after each lesson. If I'm correct in that assumption then continue to study. You'll have great fun. Is your mare quite young? My initial thoughts are is she claustrophobic? Most horses are. See if you can school her to go through a space between you & a fence. Then add a tarpaulin roof - soft so she can't hurt herself. Ideally, you should travel her with an older, more experienced horse, preferably a gelding who would have a calming effect. Please let us know how you get on & we'll offer our support. Cheers, Jo.
Hello, I am new to the uni yes. Missy is 11. She's travelled a lot in a trailer. We have a backwards facing little lorry. I will try your ideas thank you. I was wondering whether she'd prefer not to have the partition too? The only geldings I have access to, travel without partitions, so I can't do that! Thank you for your help
