Is it good practice to long line my horse every time before riding?

Hi. It depends. Allowing an excitable horse the time to let off 'steam' before you mount is always a good idea. There's nothing heroic or horsemanlike about ' bending the horse to your will'. The animal will not be 'acting out' to defy you. It will not have it in mind to cause you injury or exasperation. It may well be acting in response to an unsuitable diet ( too much go faster food ) or being kept in circumstances it finds restrictive/boring & so celebrates when those conditions are escaped from. Long lining is a tool which, when used judiciously, is extremely effective. However, to be constrained into any 'FIXED' routine, without due consideration of it's relevance or pertinence, is a mistake. Cheers, Jo.
