we have a young show jumper here which is jumping much higher than fences. although this might seems an advantage but this is extra extra higher than jumps as a result as soon as we go up to even 1 meter she stops because she cant go that much high, probably 180 for her

??? Can you make you question a little clearer?
Hi ebrahim
If I'm reading this right, I think you mean the horse is jumping much higher than it needs to so that it clears the jump with more to spare, but, because it is jumping as high as it can, when you put the jump up, even though you know it could easily clear it, the horse does not think it can. Have I got that right?
Could you also tell us the history of the horse, how old, how long you have had him/her and was s/he jumping before you got him/her?
sorry for the confusion
here is the situation, for example, she goes high up to 150 cm when jumping a fence as high as 80 cm and thats the highest fence she jumps if i want her to jump a fence as high as 1 meter she refuse !!
i think she refuses because she doesn't have enough power to jump a 1 meter fence because she actually wants to go up probably 2 meter . this extra space is now a problem for me.
she is 4 years old very young and green i know maybe this can better over time but some coaches told me that these horses are very prone to refusing or it takes them a very very long time to get relaxed when jumping.
what should i do?
Dear ebrahim
Be careful, the more she refuses now, the more the behaviour will be fixed in the future. There are two ways: Go on with small obstacles and be patient. The classical way: Professionals build a corridor with obstacles and the horses are forced to pass. It is not a very soft way and you will have to do it with an experienced person.

Hi! Horses jump on their memory. An unexperienced horse jump much higher before they "get it right" - do look into how horses see things in From My Hands to Yours. It is a common fault to say Oh she jumps so high, lets make the jumps higher. It should be your goal to do the opposite. When the horse jumps off, they can not see the jump anymore, that is why we always put a pole on the ground about 30 cm infront of the jump so the horse get a good curve. Also be aware that the SI joint might need attentions so the horse is fully movable and the energy comes through the whole end part the right way. Please help her be good on fences, give her small jumps and look into many books with excercises that help her develop. Do all you can to boost her confidence by making it easy for her. If you want more info please respond and I will send you many more tips on the training part. Warmest CI Ann Lindberg
thanks a lot every one
i will let you know if i start working with her
and i am very happy to use your experiences
this can be a great opportunity for me.
best regards
ebrahim
thanks every one
we were supposed to buy the horse but the vet check turned out to be just bad
so we didnt buy it but i bought a horse which is just the opposite :)
he was a good quality jumper but he is just going over fences now a days hitting a lot i assumed he is tired of jumping now and i just work on the ground he is 9 yrs old
any tips to make him return to good days ?
that is interesting... did the vet check explain her strange jumping? what did they find? please tell as I'm curious...
her left hand joint, above hoof was pain full !!!
probably could be the cause ?
Hi ebrahim, before talking about the actual jumping can you tell us more history? Why was he for sale? How do you know he was a "good quality jumper" before? Did you see previous owners ride him? Things like that.....the more detail in the history the easier it is for us to look at it :-)
well
i knew him for a while because he was in the same club where i was riding. so powerful and an acceptable scope over fences but ridden by inexperienced riders making him jump a lot again and again.
he is not careful any more as he used to be and the scope is just gone. i have him for a week now but didnt jump with him and tent to not for a while just working in the ground.
any suggestion ?
let me start a new discussion and we can talk about it there
thanks
