I got out of hand today

Hello!

My horse bucked me off today and I got hurt really bad. He has been doing fine for the past month since I've been riding him. He spooked took off and I got thrown. I rode him back home and I was being very mean to him.

I Feel extremely bad now,
What can I do to get him to stop bucking and be good? More time? I've only had him for about 2 months now. I think I pushed him to hard and it was not right to ride him so early.

Hi Appybullseye, good on you for admitting your wrong :-) it is hard to admit sometimes when we have lost our temper. I guess you need to look at why he is bucking? How old is he? Is he ready for riding yet? Some breeds need more time for their bodies to mature for riding than others. Look at what makes him spook etc and try to address those issues.

Hello!

He is 11 year old Appaloosa quarter horse. The previous owners never really interacted with him much so I have been training him. He is very green but very gentle. But I don't think I should have been riding yet, I've done some ground work but not alot. So I will just start over from the beginning and do it the right way?

Hello!

scary when our buds hurt us i think it takes time to recover and rebond take the time the days what ever you need then maybe start again at home . After oscar smacked me in the face [Head to head contact} i lost a bit of somthing and gained a bit of fear we are now i feel geting it back with a little bit of extra understanding. Im wondering if you have some one to help you out? and maybe spend some more time geting out scary plasti bags some differant noises i think each time we do theses things they learn to trust us and to be more confident in themselfs goodluck and keep on horsing . And me too i got mad and then felt relly bad later guess me and oscar have both got stuff to learn !

I had two horses with bucking problems and I ended up doing exactly what you are suggesting and that is that I started over with both of them as if they had never been ridden before. I did join-up and then I put the saddle on (no bridle) and turned them out from me into the round pen and they both bucked like a wild bronco with just the saddle, something they were used to wearing for years. This really surprised me, but when they were done bucking I let them come into me, then I bridled and mounted and did a short ride around the round pen and then ended the session. I did this 3 days in a row by the end of the 3rd day they never bucked again either one of them. I don't know why this cured them but it did, somehow it changed their mind about bucking, from there I never put them in a situation that might cause them to buck such as the one would like to buck if you run him across an open field so I don't even to this day run him across an open field. Do all the stuff to cause him not to spook and I think you'll have a good horse, good luck and don't feel bad we all lose our tempers sometimes.

Monty keeps telling us to allow the horse to react (in a safe envirorment) if they are going to.
So let them get that bucking out of them in a controlled way.
Kleinne did exactly the right thing and look at her results. good for her. She knows what she is doing.
LOTS of ground work with everything your imagination can come up with, therefore no surprises.
Also, remember different enviorment, different reactions, each time. So what works in a round pen may not in the pasture, therefore they have to have that experience as well. So that when they go on the trail there will be no surprises.
Next time you get bucked off DO NOT get back on your horse. Walk the horse, reasure him that it is safe and that you are a good place to be.
Sorry guys no excuse to loose your tempers, they did not do anything wrong in any way.
As Monty would say, you have a problem, look in the mirror, you caused it you fix it.
Also remember, green on green makes black and blue. Be careful.
