There are various posts about my guys over the last 12 years on here but this is one that shows how "good work" is rewarded. For reasons that don't matter, neither Humphrey or Kirk have been ridden for 2 years &, despite their age, they've never really done a lot. So Jordan sat on both, bareback, & each just went to work like they had done this last weekend. My friend commented that this just showed 'how it was done right in the first place'. I could not be more proud of my wonderful guys. Humphrey has been with me since he was 2, Kirk & Moley are homebreds. These guys show me so much trust - perhaps not so much respect but, hey, who can't appreciate a really good daily licking. Kirk got caught in a tight spot, between a wall & a telegraph pole, neither of which were going to give way. He made it through the gap up to his hips. The wall wasn't going to give way & neither was the pole so if he tried to push through his hips were history & so was he! But, he listened to me, stayed calm, backed out of the gap. He's a bit of a lad & that's not the first pickle he's got himself into - each time he's trusted me to get him out of it. And each time he's emerged without a hair out of place. Anyone who doubts that violence free training is valuable I can show multiple examples of where it has been the horses salvation. Cheers, Jo.
