I would suggest practicing long lining on a already trained horse or at least an older horse. Just to get your moves just right! Also, watch Monty's videos on long lining a bunch! Good luck!

I'm with Joy!
It doesn't have to take a long time to teach the horse, if you take it incrementally. But speaking from recent experience, I want to press the importance of you being skilled in the technique before you start teaching a young horse.
Do you have any one there who is experienced in long lining and can teach you? Maybe even help you with your young horse?

Best of luck! :)

I agree to work first witha a calm experienced horse to practice long lining. I have a two year old colt too and I love to long line and I guess that's why I feel confident I do a good job when doing it and have had a lot of practice. Although I will do some sessions with one ore two other horses - maybe one experienced and one who has not been trained for a longer time but is more mature than mine - because I haven't been working with long lines for a longer time. After that little training I will feel better and more confident when I introduce my youngster to the first girth and the long lines. Let's keep in touch how things are going. Good luck !

Vio Berlin, do you do your long lining in a round pen? I'm wondering if that is easier then long lining in a riding ring, which is what I have to do.
