Horse only likes cantering in front of other horses??

Hello!

Hi Guys,

I would really love your opinions on my 6 yo QH gelding, Bugsy!! Ive had him now for about 3 months, we just started recently doing alot of trail riding with a friend, we've noticed that Bugsy pigroots a little if he is cantering in line with the other horse or behind, if i start off in a canter first and the other horse is behind me he doesn't care... any suggestions on what i should do? Thanks :)
P.S sorry hope that made sense lol

Hi BugsyXO,
recently I re-read "Ask Monty", the book. I guess the answer I found there might as well be on this Uni at the Q&A, but I'll describe what Monty advised for the case in the book.
You'll need the cooperation of your friend, the two of you should agree on the steps to take.
As soon as Bugsy starts his undesired behavior, canter him in a lot of small circles, let this end by allowing him to stop cantering behind your friend. Soon he'll find value in this second position, because he's allowed to stop working. You might have to repeat the procedure, cantering in the opposite direction to work your horse in a balanced way, but soon enough Bugsy will find out the second position is comfortable and trying to reach the first position will bring him work.
Good luck and keep us posted!
