Horse and country tv - monty and kelly - horsemanship essentials

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed

Wow!! I have had a great Mother's Day here in Australia so I do hope everyone else on forum has too. It was a wet cold day with temperature hovering around 11 degrees. don't laugh all you northern hemisphere snow bunnies - cold for Australia and our first sign of winter approaching! For most of the day I enjoyed the company of my little 2 year old grand-daughter. In between the cold showers of rain and hail we picked the corn stalks from the vegetable garden and threw them over the fence to my two horses Tricka and Uggs and played with Chester the shetland. While my grandaughter slept for 2 hours I logged on to horse and country tv to watch more of the Monty and Kelly Horsemanship Essentials videos. I was so wrapped by these videos that I logged on again this evening and have just finished watching most of them. I know many of you have already found this series of videos but I thought that you may care for a list with my brief comments on those that I found most fascinating and relevant. May save you a bit of time as each video is quite long so it is time consuming watching them all! I have spent about 6 hours watching them to-day and I skipped some. Just wish I had seen these prior to breaking in my Tricka but then she is very good so she has done OK. The web address for all these videos is: http//www.horseandcountry.tv/episode/monty-and-kelly-horsemanship-essentials ....(for the particular title you wish to review) Here is the list:
Episode 1: trailer loading essentials ( A really great video for all of us. It demonstrates how to use the dually to handle and load 3 really difficult horses safely)
Episode 2: fear of tractors ( great video and these principles could be applied to anything your horse is fearful of)
Episode 3 starting a young horse ( I loved this video and I am sure all of you out there with young horses will learn so much from it. I intend to go back to re-train Tricka with some things. For example I will now build a dummy for her. When I broke her in I simply used two bags with chaff in them placed across her saddle when they became lopsided and dropped off she was asked to stop. There is so much more I could still do with her)
Episode 4: clipping (Good video as it demonstrates so much more than the clipping e.g. how to handle a spooky horse with the dually and how to introduce scary things to horses)
Episode 5: Spooky horses (Just a great video which again demonstrates the use of the dually and the incremental learning process to different spooky horses)
Episode 6: Horses on Tour: ( a fun video which demonstrates how Monty selects his horses on tour for his demonstrations with them. Covers a variety of problems horses have from spookiness to kicking)
Episode 7: Harley and Biscuit ( I am yet to watch this one)
Episode 8: Kizzy the rearer (skipped this one too but hopt to watch it soon)
Episode 9: Intelligent Linesmanship (still to watch as I am still to try long lining)
Episode 10: Secret Skills ( A fantastic video for all those owners out there who have problems relaxing with their horses - demonstrates how important it is for us to stay calm and set an example for our horses.)
Episode 11: Bunny the bucker (still need to watch this one)
Episode 12: Washing line phobic (watched this one awhile ago)
Episode 13: Fear of Cows (still to watch)
Episode 14: Ex-race horse -mounting issues ( points out that race horses are not mounted by their jockies so that mounting is initially a challenge for ex-race horses. Incremental learning again)
Episode 15: Kelly and the donkeys (Still to watch)
Episode 16: Learning Le Trec (Still to watch)
Episode 17: A slice of pie (Just a lovely vidoe on Kelly Mark's horse Pie - it brought tears to my eyes as it was so moving and great to watch)
Episode 18: Non-existent
Episode 19: Problems with Farrier ( A fantastic video. Shows the horrific treatment of a young horse by a farrier and how Kelly and Monty help the owner to overcome some of this damage. It made me very sad and demonstrates why we must speak up quickly when we are not happy with our farriers or trainers. However I also know that this is hard to do sometimes. A country farrier jabbed a shoeing nail into Uggs shoulder when I first had him and the wound became infested - he still has a lump there. It took me ages to correct that problem. Caused him to be fearful of men and then in my absence my he was further ruined by a crazy neighbour who roped him and ear twitched him just to get his rug off. Even my curren farrier here in Melbourne who I have had for 15 years was unexpectantly tough on Tricka when he thought she was about to nip him - belted her across the muzzle with his hand and hit her hard with the rasp. He wondered why she was nervous next time he came. He wont allow me to use the dually halter on Tricka so another farrier now does her.
Episode 20: Learning to lead and load: (Another great video for all those owners of young troublesome, bossy horses. Demonstrates how Monty teaches this young mare to respect him and to ultimateley load into the trailer)
Episode 21: Ridden Problems ( a great video that picks up some of the problems we cause when riding)

Two others I watched under "horse and country tv" which were also excellent:
http//www.horseandcountrytv/episode/monty-roberts-episode-1 (Outlines Monty's background and discusses the language of equus with great illustrations)
http//www.horseandcountrytv/watch/monty-answers-your-questios (covers many of the questions we pose for on forum)

Do hope you enjoy some of these videos as much as I have. They have something for us all Because you have both Kelly and Monty I find that even though they are longer they are easier to watch and more informative than most of our lessons on the Uni.

Thanks for this Maggie! Gives me an idea what might be good to watch. I had a lovely mothers day out fencing a new paddock for my 2 boys! It was nice and sunny down in Tassie, freezing though as it has snowed on the mountains not far from me so the wind was blowing right off them. I think spending the day watching the videos as you did was a great idea for mothers day...nice and relaxing!
