This is unacceptable behavior and he should be reported to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelity to Animals, SPCA. You can report him without even giving your name.

This just breaks my heart. Horses are such beautiful animals and don't deserve anything less than a violent free world from us humans...

i know i did report him, well i asked my dad to and he did but they said the wasnt enough proof, now they are in another field for the winter, and they have no shelter, no rugs and the last time i went they had no water.
yes it breaks my heart too, he shouldn't have horses.
I feel sorry for him because he just cant understand about how any one else feels but him self.

I think you did a great job to get him to watch the DVD's. I understand how it is for you as I live in Spain and there are many training and handling methods used that are extreme. My friend Rachel and I aim to bring around change in our area of Andalucia by offering to help and refer.
I do however also agree with Julie and his methods are barbaric. Can you get photo/video with a mobile phone maybe?

wow you live in spain ? it has been a big dream of mine to go there and see your beautiful andalusian horses. and yes i agree with the rest of you if he doesnt learn how to care for such an animal he has no rights owning them.

yes i will have to try do that next time they are moving the horses, he has just been fined for been mean to his wife so he might start to see now, i dont know.

if you want report anyone you must keep a diary of what you see, try to get to know if others have seen the same, try different charities. to be honest if hes mean to his wife then you have to remember at least the horses get to live in a field, she is stuck with him at home poor woman. i hope the dvd show him a light. well done though we should all take note of cruelty and report it.

Definately don't give up trying to report him, people like him can't concieve being treated cruelly. The diary is an excellent idea, and if you have a cell phone or camera try to get pics. Good luck

Whatever happened, Lauren? I believe that one person can make a difference so keep trying to change this person´s mind but do be careful. The cell phone camera is certainly a very practical idea. Good luck!

I volunteered with a horse rescue. We dealth with abused and neglected. There was a woman who had i believe 56 neglected, starved horses...a few of them dead when Animal control arrived. She was charged with numerous count of Animal cruelty. The rescue i helped at got 8 of the critical horses...one just couldnt make it. They found stonedust in one of the horses rectums. The others were in ICU for months and pulled through and are doing wonderfully. Oh and the woman charged...numerous counts of cruelty...only got a $1,000 fine! The prosecutor never called Animal control, not vets on the spot, not the rescue with vet reports. It was over a in a few minutes. So even when you do catch them, prosecuting them for what they've done is another story entirely.

I'm not saying this to discourage you...this man should have those horses taken from him. YOU SHOULD REPORT HIM. Furthermore, if there were more people like you the world would be a better place for horses.

Make detailed reports, be very precise about the conditions, the stalls, the horses, the horse color, where tehy're at in the barn, etc.. Thats how we were trained by Animal Control.

That man needs to go to jail!! If he did that with his horses imagine what he could do to a human or even a child?

well he did go to jail, for animal creulty but for his sheep and pigs, hes out of jail now and got banned from keeping animals for 1o years, i just found out he was acually already banned, but this time its more serious like he cant even go to his house if theres a dog in it or something, but now i dont know where the horses are because he knew he was going to go to jail so he moved them somewhere and no one knows where:( im so worried about them, and i know he will still be keeping animals because any time the police try arrest him for keeping animals he just says they are his girlfriends:/

I love the fact that you have said you feel sorry for him and as a result have given him some of Monty's DVD's. You are trying to re-educate him and you are very wise.

Several years ago I went to adopt a mustang, chose a big 5 year old very pregnant mare, and when the guy was driving her down the alley to the trailer, he, for some stupid reason, smacked her with his whip. I really thought she was going to take his head off when she kicked at him. He ducked, but I was wishing he hadnt. He backed off then. Most of the time, they just use the whips to snap to make tthe horses go in the right direction, this guy was the only one I ever saw actually hit a horse, and since she WAS going to the trailer, there was no excuse for that. You can believe I had something to say about that! She turned out to be a very nice horse. I hope those poor horses find a new home where they will NOT be abused. Treating any animal that way is intolerable.
