Dually halter training, FAIL!!

Hello!

Hello, I have a problem with my 3 1/2 yr old appaloosa gelding with the Dually halter. As soon as he feels the pressure he stops dead and doesn't move. Apart from threatening with the whip which i don't want to do.
Any suggestions what i could do?
Muchly appreciated :) thanks

Hi Candy,
.
as soon as he stops, you have to put more pressure on the halter. Hold the pressure until he moves. Reward him as soon as he takes the first step by releasing the pressure and giving him a rub!
.
Otherwise, could you videotape it and put it on www.youtube.com? That would be the easiest way for us here in the forum to give good advises and show you potential mistakes you are making. Also you could tell us HOW you are working with the Dually, for example:
.
1. How do you ask your horse to move forward/backwards?
.
2. Is it only one direction where you have this problem?
.
3. Is the Dually Halter fitting properly?
.
Please answer the questions and load up a video on Youtube, so that it is easier for us to help you!
.

Hello!

Hi Candy,
This is very good advice from Jasmin. It's much easier to give advice when we can see what you are doing. In the meantime, take a look at the advice I gave nelliebell on her dually halter work with her Brumby, Buster.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
Lynn
