Molly my new horse is going very very well, you can walk her just about anywhere on the property without her looking like a llama and jumping out of her skin at everything :) very settled in and loving her new place :) we have the farrier (finally!) coming tomorrow afternoon and arranging the dentist for the 25th :) just still one thing that im only enquiring about, shes perfectly relaxed in the roundyard, once ive finally managed to hook on after joinup, she lowers her head, blows out and seems very relaxed, but only after doing joinup about 3 times! she gets distracted by everything even though she knows the roundyard and is surrounding now. also she has made friends with the horses next the the roundyard so she gets very distracted by them and cuts corners, stops next to them, refuses to turn, etc etc, even though i try to make her. how can i attract her attention to me, and not everything else she has seen 100 times before? haha it takes me about 3 times of joinup to get her to look at me, not something else...i just would like her to focus on me :) thanks

Hi Lani - join up should not be attempted three times - just the once and it should work if you are doing it correctly. There are so many excellent videos on the Uni. Showing join up with different horses and with different people. Check out as many of these as you can before you try join up again. Do hope you take careful note of Vicci's thoughtful advise as your comments are a bit hard to follow because of the inconsistencies in them. It sounds as if you have purchased yourself a real problem horse this time so take it slowly with her and stay safe. She will help you to learn so much if you watch Monty's videos with horses with similar problems carefully before working with her and if you head the advice given to you on forum by fellow students who care and wish to help you.
Above I meant to say ' join up should not be attempted three times in the one session'. Monty does suggest that it should not be attempted more than six times with any one horse but each join up attempt should be in a different session with some days in between.
Sorry about that I don't really realise that I write all over the place when I write it haha :) she had her feet done today and was an absolute gem for the farrier, her feet are beautiful now :) and she is getting along really well for me now, I can't find a way to delete posts because every time I post something, she stops doing the thing I posted about! Haha yes she follows me around the paddock now, loves her cuddles and attentions and even walks right behind me relaxed as she can be into the scared stable and she has never been stabled or been in a stable before! A very proud owner here vv !! Haha
Sounds as if you are now making good progress so all the best with it.
Good luck, Lani, hope she continues making good progress for you :-)
