Clipper Desensitisation

Hello!

I am getting a pair of clippers in a week or so, and would love to know some desensitisation techniques. I have a small pair of battery trimmers, and they seem okay with these, but im not sure about a louder and bigger type of clippers. I have done desensitisation with the smaller clippers and they are getting used to it, but im not sure about the bigger clippers.

Hello, you would desensitise to big clippers as you would with ethere small clippers or any other item. Here is what I do. using a long line. I give the horse enough room to move but where I can control him. I turn the clippers on. If he stands still I turn them off. Then back on and move closer *LITTLE STEPS* as long as he stands I repeat until I am right next to him. Then I would turn the clippers on and place the back of the clippers on the whithers. If he stand still take away the clippers and repeat. After a few min try clipping a small place on his neck. IF he starts showing signs of being afraid of the clippers near his head and ears. Slow down and once he stands still take them away. And keep repeating. I hope this all makes sence for you and helps you. Always reward him for the good and school him for the bad.

Hello!

Okay thankyou! I will give this a go! She doesnt seem to be afraid of the small clipper because I trim her all over with these including her fetlock hair etc so she should be Okay with the bigger ones, but the louder noise might be bad.
