Ok, so I've just watched the Buck Stopper lessons with Dea, & thought this may help with a slightly different problem I encountered.
When we were breaking in my big man we used something very similar!! My man was "traditionally" broken in, so he was bitted with loose side reins( gradually tightened), lunged, then long lined. When we 1st long lined him from the centre of the school to E on the right rein between C & M he worked out that if he tucked his nose (self inflicted Rol Kur ugh) to his chest we couldn't do a damn thing with him!! So a bit of a rethink went on for the rest of the day, we ended up going to a local Chandler's to get some soft rope 4 small spring clips & plastic clip type things to secure the rope at a set length. The rope was then tied to the spring clips, clipped onto the bit, taken up to his poll to a ring on the head piece then back to the roller/saddle (almost like an old fashioned "Bearing Rein") adjusted so that he couldn't tuck his head right in to his nose but was in a natural position. This worked a treat & it sounds complicated but really easy to rig up. It's a shame we can't post photo's as I've still got it & could put it on to show how it fits.
