I have been working with my QH mare the entire winter in western pleasure and we've come a long way. We've got the walk, jog, head set collection, rein backs/ back ups, spins/pivots, and stops with no reins in all three gaits. Now all we have left is the collection in the lope. She's gotten a lot better but now every time I correct her with my legs, she pins her ears and switches her tail. Everyone tell me that it's just from lack of continual riding and the more I ride the better she'll get. Does anyone have any tips on how I can quit annoying my mare?

I am having the same issue with my 6 year Appendix QH. Every once in awhile he will start the lope with his head down. When he does I get off him quickly and let him rest. He seems to be figuring it out.
You may be expecting too much too soon. Sometimes less is more. If you find a great solution let us know.
I also really like the surcingle set up that Monty showed us. That trains them to start with their head down and back arched up.
Good luck
