A Woohoo! moment with my Brumby

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed

Well i had a really great moment of progress with Buster today :-) For the 2 weeks since i got him i have had a rope halter on him to make him easier to catch (it was all he was used to) Yesterday i took it off as it was rubbing on his nose and i didn't like that. Today my mum came to visit and she had not seen him yet so i took her out to the paddock, she stood on the outside of the fence holding my little boy. I had forgatten to take the halter out to catch him so she could get a closer look and he was on the other side of the paddock. We thought he might come over for a look as he is pretty inquisitive but when he saw someone new was with me he wouldn't come to the fence so i thought i would try to get him to follow me to the fence with no halter or lead. Bear in mind he is still largely unhandled! Big ask of him i know :-) so i mosey on up to him eyes at his shoulder...he walks the other way...dang! So i walk at him putting a little pressue on and he turns to me..i turn away eyes down. He stands still. So i arc across his body inviting him to come with me. Took maybe 4 arcs and lo and behold he followed me to where my mum was standing and my mum (who is not a horsey person but knows a few) was astounded that this wild pony was following me unrestrained to where she stood. She then startled him accidently and he shied a little but came strait back when i asked him to. Pretty awesome hey! I am loving that through the gift Monty has been given that we can learn this amazing language. I know it was not a join-up as is text book but it was something that a non horsey person could look at and say 'wow where did you learn to do that' i promptly told her 'Monty Roberts!'
Thats my story for the day :-)

Hi May, Miriam and Kicki, Thanks for the encouragement! It was such a great moment i had to share it with like minded people! Trying to tell someone who doesn't understand this stuff they just look at me strangely as if i'm silly or they really don't care! So i am loving having having the forum to connect with :-) Hope to have many more Woohoo moments to share :-)

Oh Janelle,
I'm so proud of you both, well done.
Isn't it wonderful when things like this happen to us because someone cared enough to share their knowledge with us in an understanding way.
Have a great day with your new horse,
Ronda

Thanks Ronda :-)You are right...where would we all be if Monty had not chosen to share his understanding with us????
My mum and stepdad came out again a couple days later because mum wanted me to show him how i could get Buster to follow me round the paddock with no restraints. Mum has always been worried about me being a horse lover as they can be dangerous, but after seeing this and me explaining the kind of training i intend to use she is much calmer about it...even a little excited for me :-) She even came in the paddock and had a pat of Buster and he stayed quite calm with no lead or halter while she gave him a rub. Now that is not only a huge step for Buster but for my mum also as she is in no way horsey at all!
Equus all the way :-)
Happy holidays to you all!
