Today I did my very first join up.........what a joy and a thrill........I have a few horses and chose to start with a young mare.......I watched the video's over & over......then went out into the round yard and practiced minus the horse....over & over........and over........WHY....
I am an arm amputee and need to work out my body language and movements so I was pretty much the same as Monty....so I videoed and watched and practiced.......all without a horse...throwing of my line, my hands, how to utilize my stump in my communication.
Today I led my little partbred arab mare into the round yard and I started join up for the first time ever....... it went just like Monty's video's and man it was a thrill!!
Saph my little mare sure looked at me differently....and I knew it was one of communication & respect......a magical experience and one to hold dear for my lifetime no matter how many join up's I do!!
Thanks Monty!!! :-)
Congratulations jenn!
What a brave journey to do the "minus one" version over and over to get it right!
Having only one arm and a stump, you'll probably be much more aware of your bodylanguage than others. You can be really proud of yourself!
Happy training!
Keep us posted on your progress,
Miriam
Thats wonderful jenn,
I agree with miriam, what a fantastic start to the path that you have chosen to follow.
It is a memory you will hold dear forever.
I hope your success will drive you forward and onto more wonderful times with your horses.
Keep up the training and enjoy your new relationship with Saph.

Hi Jenn,
Wondered how you are getting on with Saph.
Its sad that nobody else has bothered to reply to your post.
But I think you have done amazingly well and felt the need to tell you again.

Hi Jenn this is a fantastic story and well done! All that practice paid off, hey! It is a great feeling isn't it. Sorry that I didn't respond to this great shared experiance sooner but I must have missed this thread the first time it came around as I was away. All the very best with other join ups now you have mastered it.
WOW! What a beautiful and courageous story.
I am new to horse ownership. I rode as a child until my teens, but never owned my own. I co-own with a friend who is a real cowgirl and natural horsemanship teacher, so I feel pretty blessed to have this back in my life.
I've mostly been lurking, but I had to stop for a moment and say how touched I was to read Jen's post.
Nice to be here!
Well done Jenn, that is so great. Not just that you watched the videos to learn it, but that you took the time to actually get in the round pen and practice without the horse is what impressed me. I never thought of doing that, but I think that it is a great point to make to people who are working towards doing their first join up, that you can just get in the pen and pretend your horse is in there!
Congratulations!
That is so awesome! Congratulations! Proof that with determination, hard work and perseverence us two leggeds can do anything we set out minds to. Well done! :D
Good for you!!!!
Keep up the good work! Whenever someone rises over difficulties the rest of us should take courage and do so much more. Thankyou for sharing and keep it on. Wonderful!
