For the first time in my life I did join up. The horse's name is Mr Black. He had just the week before thrown my sister off and she broke her wrist. :( I'm experienced with horses over the years but have never had the right opportunity to try join up. There I was, in a small paddock and these two horses that didn't want to be caught were running in a circle around me. I had watched Monty's video 'Follow Up' many times over and thought, there's no time like the present to try it - they're already doing the first part. So I simply used the long lead-rope in my hand and sent them away with it. I wasn't sure if it would work with two horses at the same time but felt I would soon find out. I was surprised when Mr Black, the younger of the two, was the first to give all four communications. I went passive and invited him to join-up. He did! Then when I moved away he came with me, not once but twice! I truely didn't expect this change in him. It was the best feeling I've had with a horse. I spent some time with him, giving him a positive experience. Then I returned him to the pasture. After that I finished join-up with the older horse. He didn't want to drop his head while trotting but did it when he was standing still. He was harder to get a response from but finally he took those steps towards me and allowed me to touch him all over. It's hard to put into words but I know my horse-encounters are going to be amazingly better now that I have the confidence join-up has given me. :) Looking forward to learning all the way.
