Hi all,
I have often heard Monty say if there is a better way then we should do it.
With one of Florian's videos I watching, he said he really respected Monty and how he has an open mind to new ways.
I too respect Monty for that.
I have many videos sent to me on Youtube and I have just received a few from, Michael Peace from the UK.
They are great. He has one on youtube called, headshy.mov.
If you might be interested in watching it it can be found on Youtube, thinkequus and then type in headshy.mov.
I found it very informative. Perhaps you will too.

Just wondering also: where do you watch Florian's videos?
Linda
Hi Linda,
I watch them on Youtube.
There are three right now.
One is; Florian Oberparleiter speaks about Monty
Two is; Florian & Phoebe 2011
Three is; Flroian Oberparleiter 2010
If you go to youtube and type in any of the above all three will come up and you can watch them.
It is amazing what he can do with horses, enjoy.

THANKS Ronda! Just checked out your Youtube site again. Loved Michael Peace and his videos. Also watched what I believe is your latest video with Star when you were putting her saddle blanket on. You are making so much progress so well done! Do hope you don't mind me being a bit picky. When you finally got the saddle blanket on I was saying "Now quietly take it off again as Star is standing still accepting it and finish for the day" but you didn't! Star had been so good to that point and so accepting. In my view the "lesson" was too long with too many things introduced. When you tried the cirsingle things fell apart and Star said she had had enough. I was really concerned when you stopped the lesson after Star spooked with the cirsingle - it was not a good time to stop! However Anne has come to your rescue so much better than we can here on Forum and what a lovely lesson she gave you as an example. I really enjoyed Anne's special video to you and I am sure you appreciated it too. So many things for you to learn from that video of Anne's. Please do not regard these comments here as negative as I think you are doing a wonderful job with Star but she is a nervy little horse and needs short lessons with those smooth movements Anne emphasized. Do hope you are recovering well - my thoughts are with you.
Thanks Maggie,
I appreciate your input.
I remember that video. I call it "WHAT NOT TO DO!!!"
Up to that point Star was taking the blanket easily, so onto the next step.
The surcingle!!! She has always hated it and I'm not sure why.
Perhaps because when I move around her to drop the other side she of course turns and off it falls. Of course that frightens her and she jumps.
I had been at it for 40 minuets(didn't realize) and she was standing perfectly still for the bags, the blanket and then I said to my husband turn on the camera.
Of course I was exhausted at this point.
I reused the bags, blanket and then the surcingle.
I brought the surcingle into the round pen and she started to move as soon as she saw it.
She accepts the saddle easier than that so we have decided to use her saddle for long lining, when the time comes.
Since last month I don't have a lot of energy and what little I do have is spent grooming her.
That is why I have Jannah now.
She's doing great with her.
Very horsey person.
Short lessons are absoultely correct. With my balance off my movements are jerky and I loose my balance easily. It wasn't the greatest before from the last stroke.
So I'll leave the training to Jannah for now.
That was very nice of Anna wasn't it and I really appreciated it.
Right now STAR is in her pasture for a bit to get some green grass. I have been introducing it to her gradually. She is loving it, jumping and running at full speed ahead.
Now to get her out and back into the paddock, don't want her to get colic. Too much too soon.
I am slowing recovering. I just don't come back as easily as I use to. So patience is needed there too.
Not easy for someone like me.
Have a great day,
Ronda
Hi again Maggie,
After watching this weeks lesson I now understand why STAR reacts the way she does.
As I said I was training her at liberty for two years and as Florian says if not done the correct way they will run away when you step into their pressure.
That is what Star does. I am now going to try his way and see if this works better and helps her to stand still, when approached from the side.
See ya and I'll let you know how it goes.
Ronda
Sorry to keep posting but I wanted to let you know I did todays lesson with STAR and it worked beautifully.
Fot the first time she did not walk away or get nervous.
She yeilded beautifully, was relaxed and stood completely still.
Tomarrow, if it is not raining, Paul will video it and you can see the difference. Yea!!!!
Thank you Florian and Monty.
Fantastic Ronda. I will look forward to the video. My thoughts are with you and do look after yourself. I bet Star loves the green pasture but you are right that she shouldn't have too much of it. Once she is eating 30 minutes would be enough initially but I am sure you know this. The nice green grass will make her more lively too so be ready for this and take care. So pleased you have someone you can trust helping you out with Star now. Florian is great isn't he and I really liked Michael Peace's approach too.
Hi Ronda! I hope you are going well and recovering :-) I thought of you when the Florian video came up as i knew you had trained Star using liberty techniques. I thought it interesting how he keeps the hand there for a moment till the horse relaxes...probably the most important part of the lesson for me! How many of us give a complete step back as release? Ahhh soooooo much to learn!!
Can't wait for your next video!
Janelle
I agree,
As I said it really worked with STAR. Keeping my hand is the opposite to what I always did.
I can't wait to see if this makes a difference to her accepting the saddle more easily and approaching from the side.
Knowing now that I just want her to yeild and not move quickly away every time I approach her from the side.
Have a great day,
Ronda
