My Join-Up® Experience

Why join-up only 4-6 times?

Please upload your photo

Why does Monty suggest only doing join-up 4-6 times per horse?
I thought it would be a nice way to always start the ground work.
Also, he says repetition will NOT lead to a different end result, so I am confused.

Hi!
.
Imagine a child. And you tell him/her the same story every morning. Don't you think it woulf be annoying?

Jasmin's right the horse gets bored with it and stops responding to it. As far as repetition not leading to a different result if for example your frustrated with your horse because he's barn sour but you continue to ride him back to the barn everyday, take his saddle off, brush him and tell him he's a good boy. Your teaching him to be barn sour by making it a good experience for him to get back to the barn. So if you don't want him to be barn sour then you need to not ride him back to the barn but ride him somewhere else and get off and walk him home.
I hope this makes sense,
Kleinne

Hello!

Join–Up is making the horse aware of the conditions in the contract. If you go on a course, you will be asked to sign something on the first day so that you are aware of the terms and conditions, in some cases they may be explained to you in detail as well.

Horses can't read the document, so you may have to remind them of the rules and they may have questions you need to answer. You can be sure that after four Join–Ups all horses know clearly what you want and have stopped questioning your right to demand it.

After that, you might want to go through the T&C again if they haven't seen you in a long time! It isn't, by any means the prerequisite for every training session.

After all, on the first day in class they tell you the rules. You have more important things to learn in lessons after that, you wouldn't want to spend half of every lesson 'learning' something you already knew.
