Saw this study and thought I'd share it. It supports exactly what Monty has always said about whips in racing - they don't make the horses run faster, so why use them?

Hi Ruth, I haven't looked at the article but i know a scientific study was done here in Australia that proved that whipping the horse in racing made absolutely no difference to its overall time on the track! So why are they still being used?? Will find time soon to have a look at the study you posted :-)

Interesting find! I always hated seeing jockeys whip their horses. Whips should be banned from the race track.
