Transition from Halter Horse to under saddle?

Hello!
I have a 5 your old mare that was shown as a two yr old. She had a successful halter career, however, I don't know anything about horses bred for halter competition. Do these horses go on to make Western Pleasure horses?
If they do where do you start?

Hi & welcome to the Uni. Each horse is an individual & must be treated as such. Just because no one has shown this mare riding tack does not mean she cannot become an excellent riding horse, assuming she has the stature to cope with the size of human in question.

Study the Uni lessons & treat this mare according to the roadmap for first saddle & rider. Move incrementally, at your mares pace, letting her learn & become comfortable with each progression & you will end up with an exceptional partner. Keep us informed of how things are going. There will be mistakes along the way ( bumps in the road ) but these are nothing to worry about but simply opportunities to learn & strengthen your bond. The most important thing to remember is to have fun, both you &, really importantly, your mare too. Cheers, Jo.
