training beware !!!

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed 300 lessons completed

It had been brought to my attention about Clinton Anderson's training methods and I thought I would have a look see.
It is terrible!!!! He uses a stick and I mean uses a stick. His training program is when the horse does not do as you want, YOU STRIKE THE HORSE WITH THIS STICK, HARD ON WHATEVER PART OF THE HORSE THAT DOES NOT MOVE.
When I saw this I was and am furious.
He claims his methods are the best, Ha, the worst maybe, but definetly not the best.
This is downright cruelty.
He claims he gets results faster and there are no HOLES when his methods are used.
Maybe no holes but certainly burn marks.
I pity anyone who uses these methods on their horse or the poor horse who has had this method used on them.
We have a TV program here in Canada call HEARTLAND, and it's about a ranch family that train horses the natural way. One season, there was a colt starting program shown and, there was this half-wit who used similiar methods and scared the poor horses to death.
Oh, I'm just so angry, you wouldn't believe. If I had the ability to shut this Clinton Anderson down it would have been yesterday and even that would have been too soon.
I have tried emailing him, no results. I have tried telephoning the two numbers they give, no results, hmmm, makes you wonder, right.
Maybe someone ought to take that same stick to him and let him see how it feels, right, MONTY.
Crulety in any form is inhumane. I'm sorry but I'm crying. How could anyone call themselves horse lovers and treat animals this way.
Is there a SPCA institute in the USA that could be told about this?
A very angry horse owner and lover,

HI Ronda,
I'm very glad you made your comment, thank you. I had read somewhere about him and thought I would buy one of his books and see what I could learn, but after reading your post and now knowing that he uses pain and fear to train, I certainly won't waste my money.
Thanks again.

Wow you really don't like him! Can't say I blame you. Having looked at a number of training methods Including Clinton Anderson, there is a common tool that all of them use. The STICK! Like spurs and lunge whips, the use of a stick can be either a benefit to the horse in learning what you want him to do, or it can be used to take out your frustration on the poor animal. Of all the trainers Clinton in my opinion tries to dominate the horse rather than teach the horse what is excepted. Watch Chris Cox training horses and you will see a trainer that is all business, with very little humor, but reads and understands the horse. He acts as their advocate. He understands the learning process that must take place for a horse to be successful. Stacie Westfall is similar to Chris Cox. My friend Dennis Reise is a trainer that use to be a real cowboy around horses but learned very quickly that horses will do whatever you ask them to do if you ask correctly.

I know there are a lot of folks that think that Clinton Anderson and Pat Parelli are great trainers but to me they are gimmick trainers. Every year there is a mustang training contest to see which trainer can train a mustang to a high level in the shortest period of time. Chris Cox won this years contest.
http://www.chris-cox.com/around-the-ranch/press-releases.phpIf
you watch him he spent twice as much time on the ground with the horse than anyone else. Teaching basics and teaching the horse to trust him. Pat Parelli got bucked off! Stacie Westfall, one of my very favorite horse person has also been a winner in the contest.

Then there is Monty! He did not start out training horses the way he does now, but being such an observant person he discovered the language of the horse. If you know how a horse will behave in different situations you can help the horse become better trained and he will like to work for you and you will be a better person as well.

Cheers

I just watched a couple of clinton andersons vids on youtube and i have to say i dont care what he can 'get' a horse to do, the way he goes about it is awful. Ronda i too had trouble even watching a minute! I wanted to jump in and rescue the poor frightened horse. This clinton obviously has no idea about the real language of the horse. What is with wacking a horse with a stick???? idiot! so called natural horsemaship hey. Thank the lord for monty is all i can say :-)

Hey all,
Thank you for your comments.
I too was not raised to treat horses the way I do now and I believe that is why I am so sensitive to them being mistreated now.
I guess it's like a reformed smoker, they cannot tolorate anyone smoking around them at all and will speak up immediately, strange, eh.
I've heard of Chris Cox but haven't watched him, but I will.
Stacie Westfall I have watched and I admire her.
The type of book I'm writting will involve horse breeds and different training methods used over the years and the TRUE successes it has yeild.
So I guess I'm going to be exposed to some pretty horrible stuff going through the process BUT I will expose what I see.
Of course I will not be able to use specific names but I will be so expliciate in my descriptions there will be no doubt about whom I am speaking.
Then people can decide for themselves what they want to do with the information.
For me the shame lies in the treatment of a horse. I always say if it hurts us, hitting or slapping, it will hurt the horse.
How we react to starving children all over the world but ignore the neighbour who is harming or neglecting their horse, sounds hypicritical to me.
Treat others the way you want to be treated, you may get kicked in the teeth but you will have a good conscience and a sound sleep.

Hello!

Hi, watch this, I really appreciate this guy. There is nothing commercial about his videos, no performances.

Thanks for posting this Ronda. It is such a pity that such methods are still tolerated and that this guy can gain a reputation as a trainer.

Hi Maggie,
He doesn't just gain a reputation as a trainer he makes millions doing it.
This really burns me.

Hello!

Only the numerous fans make it possible that somebody has so much success with such a method. The people love spectacularity, the show. They are happy, they paid to see results and they want to see fast results. The end justifies the means. That is the human being, allways worse it seems. And if the animal doesn't fit in his world, then it is made suitable. What kind of presumption.
