We have had a couple of forum discussions on similar topics so you may care to do a search through the topics. As in most areas of horse training opinioncs differ here from one extreme of leaving the foal alone to be a foal to the other of frequent handling and grooming. I personally think it is good to put a halter on them fairly early - at about 4-6 weeks and to start gentle, short handling sessions a couple of times a week. In these sessions you can get your youngster used to having a halter on and teach him/her to lead, stop, etc. It is also a good idea to get them used to picking up their hooves and holding them up for a minute or so as it wont be long before they need to be trimmed. When they are so young you do not necessarily need a dually as a traditional headstall or rope halter will be fine so you may wish to hold off on the purchase of a dually as their heads grow quickly. I am sure others will have plenty to add to this.
