I would like to see a lesson that covers behavior inside the trailer after the horse has come in that will keep both horse and handler safe and calm. Since we only see Monty lead on and immmediatlely off I would like to have him explain the next steps before and after travelling to ensure a safe journey and exit. Thank you

Great idea! There is some information in Monty's book about this that you may want to look at but I do think some detailed video lessons would be really good.
Hi Sharon, I've mentioned it to Debbie, but it might be an idea for you to drop a message to support too.
Are you having problems with your horse inside the trailer?

Hi, Mel; sorry to be so tardy rereading these posts. To answer - not yet but I am thinking ahead! I have now gotten to the point where Kava will load (and stand quietly if there is feed in front of him). I can close the partition and then go outside and tie him. We have now gone for short rides and he handles this well. I have moved to the next step of our journey and tried to put him in the rear of the slant. He will load but will not stay long enough for me to get outside and close the rear door. Since there is no rear tack room there is no place for a butt rope and he steps right back onto the ground. I'm afraid to tie him because he could get a hind foot or 2 onto the ground and I'd have a potential wreck. Would it be safe to construct a butt strap to go across the entire rear?
Hi, sorry for missing this. Been a busy week.
He's not trusting the process still and is looking for his route out, so no do not put a butt strap across him.
.
Something is telling him he is not safe. Continue with the loading practice, but remove the food. Take him on and practice deep relaxing breathing with him to help bring his energy levels down. Reward him with stroking him as Monty shows in the videos. Then take him off again. Load him again repeat and unload, then do again for a 3rd time, wait for the lick and chew then end the lesson.
Can you let us know what trailer it is you've got so we can see how you can get around getting outside with him in please.

Thanks: trl. is a Logan Competitor - 2horse slant, rear single door hinged on the left which is a pain to handle as I have to totally leave the horse to close it. No rear tack space, so it is about 7'or a bit less wide. There is no provision for a butt strap on the back stall which is why I wondered if it would be safe to mount one myself. There is a small area where I can stand inside with him as we practice. Shall I leave the window open so he can put his head out? And your photo is so cute! Wish I could enlarge it! Sharon
Hi Sharon
How do you feel when you have to leave him to close the door? He might be picking up something from you!
Without seeing a photo of what you have, not too sure about the butt strap and fixing one yourself. I would have thought there would be a bracket / hook to do so?
Horses are naturally claustrophobic, so you could try whilst the trailer is stationary to have the window open. Not sure when driving though.
Here's a bigger picture for you ;) https://flic.kr/p/FpztXo
Keep us updated how it's going.
