To Mask or Not to Mask

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed 250 lessons completed
Hello,
I always have questions, but recently wondered about fly masks. Our gelding has eyes that tear up a lot and the flies love that, even with bug spray. We bought him a fly mask and he seems fine with it, but when I check him later in the day, there is hay sticking in the eye area and that can't be comfortable either. First question...mask? best kind? Second question...best bug spray?I do have an appointment with the vet for September 11 to see if the tear ducts need to be checked.
Thank you!

I have had trouble with flies on my horses for a long time. I tried the mask and it helped some. And I sprayed them almost every day. But I found something called Pro Force 50 Equine Spray at Chewy.com that has worked wonders with them. It comes in a small tube and you put several drops around their ears, on both sides of the withers, down their hocks, down both hips or dock, and behind both elbows. It last up to 2 weeks and I don't have to spray anymore unless it gets to bad for them.
There are several different brands but I would look for the one with the most Permethrin in it and the safest to use around your other pets.
Getting his tear ducts checked is a good thing also.
I hope this helps some.
