The great dually halter

Hello!

I rescued a 3 year old mare who was on her way to a Montreal kill facility. She was "broke" very young and with very harsh methods. She was head shy, saddle shy, girth shy etc. I did join up with her and then got a dually halter. We have come a long way. We do a lot of ground work (plus she has been great tacking up and under saddle). The last time this horse was on a trailer was the kill facility.

Yesterday I decided it was time to try loading using the dually halter. After THREE attempts, she walked right on!!!! I didn't have access to panels so we walked up the ramps a few times then loaded. I then tried the other stall on the trailer and two tries was all it took to get her on!!! No harsh words, no rearing, no whips, just patience and letting her come up off the pressure of the halter!! Other people at the barn think I'm nuts and would prefer to shove their horses onto the trailer, but I believe whole heartedly that THIS is the way to go! I almost cried when she loaded onto the trailer. THANKS SO MUCH MONTY!!

Well done you!! Stick to your guns, when your horse does everything you ask without any violence then they may become interested.. Don't be bullied by anyone, if you are doing something new and your horse is working it out if they offer to "help" politely say no.
I loaded a friend's ex racer the other day, it took me longer to go and get my Dually than to load the horse!! The horse has travelled to Dubai etc so was used to loading! One happy owner getting her own Dually after horse went straight on yesterday to go to from show.

Great stuff k9; don't worry, others are secretly wondering if they should give it a try :-) I had the surprise of my life once when someone who would not at all consider a Dually finally after about 5 years asked if she could borrow her mothers!! she didn't ask me, I don't think she could face it hahaha - doesn't matter though, they will get there in their own time!

Bought my Dually after seeing Monty in Canberra in Australia. It should come with a disclaimer that it is not magic but magic things happen when you use one.
