Technically, my horse and I had done join up before I even heard of Monty Roberts. By join up, I mean that after lunging (freely in a round pen), my horse Pilgrim would come to me in the center of the round pen and follow me around. It was normally after lunging him for ten to twenty minutes or longer, and I thought it was pretty cool.
After hearing about Monty Roberts and learning about the language of equs, I tried a real Join-Up with Pilgrim. It was not even two seconds after I sent him away that he locked his inside ear on me, put his head down, and started licking and chewing all at the same time!
