Sounds good but now you need the dually on to discipline her to stay off you. Great you did achieve such a good join up as it is difficult without a round yard or smaller area.
I had fun though! I think he did too... :)
hehe i had fun just reading it
Went back today, is it my imagination or he was....hmmmm...calmer!?
Well done! You have earns the calmness!
Thanks Maggie and Cindylou! :) Tomorrow...First ride together...Yay!
Ok, Hollywood, lets put your bridle on. Upper lip going up...white eyes staring at me...like it that much hey!? Common put your head down for me I promese I won't hurt you, yay! got it on! ( took 15 minutes pffffffew) Great thing I've been studying first! Good boy at the mounting block, hop on, aaaaand...... forward......hmmmm not so much.... We'll have to work on that, but only tomorrow. Today we enjoy each other's company :)
Well done M J - great to have your updates - you are keeping us amused!. If he dislikes the bridle that much no doubt he has been either ear twitched or hit around the head. Monty has a couple of good videos on head shy horses to watch. Did you work on his head first ? - just gently putting the reins over his ears first. Diid you then remove the reins from the bridle and try with just a lose headstall first? Is he nervous of the bit going in or just the bridle over his ears? If the bit is a problem did you try a bit of honey on the bit as Monty does? Another thing which I find works with head shy horses is to give them a bit of licourice or carrot in one hand and then gently rub the other hand up over their ears . NB this is NOT a Monty recommendation and should only be tried with horses that have very gentle muzzles and no tendency to bite. Good luck with it - tiny steps and each time you do it he should improve. Just concentrate on getting him to lower his head for you first as then the whole process is so much easier.
Maggie you're the bestest! I had a pretty good idea Hollywood was going to be a bit challenging so I watched Monty's videos last night and applied all of it!! Does it ever work....Now if you guys could only help me with my 11 year old son........ ;)
Great MJ!! The son is another matter but Monty says what works for horses works on children too. All the best with them both and keep us posted.
Abigail meet Hollywood.....Hollywood meet Abigail!! 3 days it took me to get him to accept the bridle. He was maybe a 6 on the scale, manageable sorta, but he's a school horse and that could get him in trouble. So now down to a 2. Gooood Booooy!!! :) SO-MUCH-FUN!!!! teehee
Well done!
