A few suggestions for new courses:
1) barefoot v/s shoes Also in depth discussion on hoof care (barefoot); types of shoes; the proper use of hoof boots.
2) in depth discussion (by Vet(s))about equine diseases and disorders and how to treat or prevent them. Proper vaccination programs and how to track them.
3) Horse nutrition (hay (types, etc.); grain, commercial feeds when and whys.
I like these suggestions!
Hi charles.egner,
The suggestions you make give me the impression, that you could be a very happy student at the Introductory Course of Horsemanship that Certified Instructors all over the world give in their countries. This course gives you a deeper insight in a variety of items that relate to horses.
Ofcourse these subjects would make wonderful lessons on the Uni, but I felt like you could be looking for more....

I Don't know yet how to make a new question, so I hope its ok to put it here. I got my horse from a "old fashioned" cowboy. I could tell on my own that I had no intention of whipping my horse. I would like to see a super basic training for me as a handler and owner. I have been told give horses apples and buy big bags of treats. Thats wrong. I was given sharp nasty looking spurs, I refuse to use. Now i'm questioning myself on everything i do. She is stabled in a place where she looks longingly at the grass in the park. She used to be able to run there and now its not safe for horses. Can i still lead her out to the grass without teaching her something bad? I'm confused, I'm kinda leaning toward its teaching her to think she can eat when I want to ride her out in the park around the lake? I learned so much junk that i wish i could call Monty on the phone, or figure out how to get friends on here where i can ask someone who knows the correct answer. I haven't yet found any "horsemen" around here that aren't cruel.
Hi Karyn
Its good that you are questioning everything :-) Can I suggest that you get Montys book "From My Hands to Yours" as soon as possible and also Kelly Marks book "Perfect Manners" - these will give you a really solid foundation in horsemanship.
Forgot to add.......if you look under the list of topics it says "choose a topic to make a new post" (thats how you post a new question) so it might be worth starting a new thread/post with a specific issue that you want help with?
Oh wow Vicci, thanks....Thats a big help, I figured out how to change my forum name too....now i'm karyn & tokia, I'll go to the book store and see if i can find the book. I got my dually halter finally today and Tokia did a great job!
Suggestions for video lessons:
1. Basic walk through of a western horse show some of the elements and training to take a horse and rider to their first show.
2. Proper diet and nutrition for a foal to the second year and then adults
All of the suggestions are very creative!! Here are my suggestions:
1. How to train you horse to pick up its feet when asked.
2. A kind of walk through on the different feeds to give you horse, how much to give them (approximately), and when to give it to your horse (approximately) for the yearling - adult horse.
3. How to take care of minor wounds on your horse.
4. Another video on how to train your horse to give into pressure.
Hi Horse lover
There are lessons on here about into pressure and if you look through the desensitising ones you will see how to do feelt.
Great ideas on the other ones :-)
Thanks! I will look into that :D...
I agree with most all of the suggestions above for new courses especially charles'. What horse25lover suggests as well.Great ideas!! There is also something in these lessons horse25lover as well on how to train your horse to pick-up his/her feet.I remember doing it.The lessons they have are wonderful they have all done a great job on it.I thank the team again for their excellent work on these lessons!
Thanks for all the great suggestions and helpfulness! I'll take this to the next planning meeting. As always, this is the world's best forum of horse lovers!
Kayrn, I am coming very late to this thread, but yours words struck me as you being so frustrated with what your findings in the equestrian world.
.
I am sorry to say that there is hundreds of years of MIS-INFORMATION about the horse that a person has to wade through to be in concert who they really are, and how to bring them into your world
.
.Vicci offers great advice with her words. I feel that the very best thing that we all can do is to arm ourselves with good information and enter into discussion with other folks on this forum about that information as we build our world of knowledge about the horse. I find that when we have true knowledge, it builds our confidence level and we are able walk by the nonsence. The horse will guide you if you allow him to.
.
You have come to the right place because these good people, that are located all over the world, possess the knowledge and background to help you on your journey of understanding. Mind you, that it will take you a lifetime of learning, but it`s a pleasant ride. So kick your boots off and get comfortable and prepare to meet some of the most awesome people on the planet and their horses.

All the best Bud
