WOW, what a lesson, is it me or did Monty seem to be almost in tears after removing the line & the horse backed through the poles.

Hi Tiggy. Yeah, I think he was really touched by the incredible improvement. Judging from his comments he had not planned the unclipped part, it was done on the basis of a gut feeling.
I just watched the lesson (thanks to Jo, lol) and it was quiet emotional, great to see, great lesson. :)
A beautiful lesson - I do that 'task' (reverse round L poles and M poles) with all the horses I've worked with and teach clients how to do it but I have never done it without a lead line and clearly need to improve my technique and finesse! A wonderful moment to see.
Mine will go back on command as I climb the gate with his hay, probably because he's learnt he won't get it so quickly if he doesn't!! Will do more with him & Winter on the reverse, see if we can do it..
We're glad you appreciated the depth of this lesson. Thank you for the comments we will share with Monty.
The spontaneous unclipping, as Monty worked with this formerly skiddish Warmblood, is what we hope for in a Uni lesson. Unscripted and pure horsemanship.
Thank you for learning and evolving with us. Lots more to come.
Fantastic lesson, superb training & what a clever horse!!!
I'm so sorry i have to leave the uni for now & only have about a week & a half left of my subscription, but times are hard but "I'll be back!!!".
For an instance of how important backing up is in a practical situation, I'm moving the electric fence daily now as there's too much grass to put my two out on the lot even for a few hours; I went to move it the other day & Libby decided to bump into me & brush past, knocking me off balance, I immediately turned to her, looked her in the eye & with my arms, told her to back up, she took 4 steps back & waited patiently while i moved the fence & then invited her in to eat the grass - what a good girl! Ebony watched & also waited!!!
Message to Monty, you may feel you've not done enough & don't deserve the trust & willingness the horses give to you , BUT, have no doubt, your lessons will live on in your students & so far, so many horses have so much better lives thanks to you & your wonderful training, it will continue, but we're all still gob-smacked at your ability to get so much from the horses you deal with, but not only that, the most important thing you have done, is to be able to train or, enable us humans to LEARN FROM YOU!!!
God Bless you, all my love Beryl
Aw Beryl, I will miss you! It's been great getting to know you on here, good luck with everything you do and I hope we see you again soon xx
Yeah Beryl, I'll miss you too:( Come back as soon as you can.
Ah, thank you friends, thats nice!
I'm going to retrain to do Reiki healing as the saddlery trade has had it's day for small people like me, you can't compete with bridles coming in from China etc.
I will still be doing saddlery repairs & doing the rug cleaning, proofing & repairs but it's time to face facts - i can't make enough to live on just doing that & there's far too many people retailing to compete as well, so such is life!
I'm practising on my girls, it's been very interesting as they are so different.
I'll miss you guys too!
Sorry you're having problems. Remember what Monty said - when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Good luck. Jo
Cheers Jo, I'm looking forward to my Reiki, it's exciting to be going into something new, I've always been a bit of a gypsy through life, seeing where it leads me!
Best of luck in the future, beryl!!! I hope the roads will bring you right back to us in a foreseeable future. You and your knowledge will definitely be missed.
We will certainly miss you Beryl and look forward to your return. Sad to know things are tough for you at present. All the very best an my thoughts are with you.
