I could not believe after all these years that I knew nothing at all on how to get the most out of my dually halter(red one) until I watched the videos with Criss Morris. No wonder my poor horse has been so confused.
I watched the videos until i understood what to do. I then went outside and executed it perfectly with my mare. At first she didn't know what I wanted because for 7 years I have been doing it wrong. Once I got it right she followed right along as if saying finally human you know what you're doing and now I have a good leader.
As Monty has said all along the dually is only as good as the hands that learn to use it.
What a patient animal our dear horses are.
Thank you so much. Monty.

Hey star !
.
That's funny I had the exact same thing happen a while ago. I couldn't understand why my horse wouldn't go where I was asking her to go and I was convinced i was asking her right... until I watched that series of lessons.
.
We're lucky to have access to quality material like this, every horse owner should join the uni !^^
Thanks for the feedback Lucie & Ronda. Glad you enjoyed the Dually lesson and learnt how to use the Dually halter so your horses understand you better. Keep up the good work!!
Hi Ronda, Lucie and Chris,
What a wonderful feedback for you Chris and how good to know, that there is still some work to do about explaining the use of the Dually! Did you watch the DVD that came with the Dually originally, ladies? What was it exactly that didn't work and now through Chis' lessons did? Did you ever see someone show the use of the Dually, before you started using it? All these details can help to understand where the DVD could become even more accurate! We're trying to make the UNI better all the time...
Happy horse hours,
Miriam
I think for me it was my body language, I was having a hard time backing up my horse and it turned out I was not looking where i wanted her to go and was stepping too far into her shoulder but not activating the soft rope as i was stepping in.
.
I had started watching the first lessons on leading your horse when i got my dually but it took a while to get it right because I didn't have anyone with me who'd ever used one.
Hi Lucie,
That makes a lot of sense, what we have to learn, is comunicating through our own bodylanguage and to release the pressure as soon as there is smallest reaction from the horse. From what you describe, you stepped into her "bubble"( pressure zone ), which would make her go into pressure, and not backing up.
Thank you, this helps to figure out what might need more attention!
Keep on dancing,
Miriam
Hi, for me it was the same. I always looked Star in the eyes to back her up not over her rump to "guide" her. I watched that DVD so many times I thought I had it memorized. Apparently not. Also the sideways movements. All in all a great series of videos. He did a great job in explaining the "WHY" of things.
Now I've been watching Monty with the dually and his backing up the horse through the panels. It is remarkable how this thing works so well.
I have always believed, he who controls the feet controls the horse. These videos certainly prove that.
Now we are working on the "beach balls"
Even after all these years I seem to learn something new everyone I come on the uni.
I just watched that last video in the series with
Monty on the magic with the dually. My goodness it brought tears to my eyes as well. Well done
Monty. Well done indeed. Thank you so much for sharing with us all your years of experience and love of the greatest animals on earth.
Ronda
Yesterday we had the pleasure to hear and see Monty while he was sharing his feelings and knowledge with us in Hungary. I think, inpite of the language dufficulties, he has got an overhelming number of new fans, followers and advocates again. Thanks for the great experience.
János
Hi Ronda,
Thank you for coming back to this item!
So in your case it were the eyes that kept you from communicating with your horse.
Like in the saddle, the eyes tell the horse where you want to go....
This could be something that might be said or shown more specifically when explaining the use of the Dually halter!
Aren't we lucky to be able to follow Monty's legacy!
Miriam
Hi János,
So good to read your entry here on the forum, it must have been a wonderful evening
with Monty in Hungary! You seem to have been a member of the UNI for a long time,
considering your rosettes! Please keep in contact with this forum, it's great to know there are people with the same vision all over the world...
Maybe you can help some of these new followers overcome their language difficulties and join us on this Equus Online Uni! Equus is the language of the horse, we have that in common!
