Nitrogen fixers suitable for grazing?

Hello! 100 lessons completed 150 lessons completed 200 lessons completed

The farm where I keep my horses is undergoing organic conversion and is looking for suitable green manure plants which can be grown on the fallow fields before being ploughed for cereals and crops. Whilst we still have enough for summer grazing and a bit of hay I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of plants suitable which can be used for grazing in the winter before ploughing. I've read that too much clover is to be avoided and need some information on suitable mixes which won't be too rich for good doers. Soil has pH of 4.5 at the moment and anything growing would have to be able to cope and thrive in the fantastic Welsh weather.

Ask at your local agricultural merchants, they'll know all the various mixes available that will be suitable. Our local merchants has its own range of grass seed so couldn't offer a name as it may be called something else in the rest of the country.
