About This Week’s Lesson

Mounting Block question

Hello! 100 lessons completed

I am trying this with my horse and our challenge is that when I pull the right rein she simultaneously moves AWAY with her front end, and well as toward me with her hindqurarters. How do I keep her front end still? Any ideas?

Maybe try teaching her turn on the forehand first so that she understands to move her hindquarters separately.

Hello!

The same here.... Maybe it would be a good idea to ask Monty for a trouble-shooting video... I bet this is not the only problem we will encounter...

Keep enough(slight)pressure on the left rein so as horse cannot turn away and leave you. It's a question of feel.Only ask for one small step towards you with the hip. It's always tempting to ask for too much too soon.Incremental learning works with horses.....that and quietness.

I have been working with my mare on this and she has gotten quicker about understanding what I want. I have only used the reins the last two times (instead of a lead clipped on and used as left rein since its longer then rein) and it has worked to wear she stands for mounting. Not always for me to get both feet in stirrups as I can be slow on that still but over all it has worked nicely for her Thanks for the Lesson!
