I would love to see Monty teaching novices how to do join up so that we can learn where they are going wrong and how Monty corrects them. I have tried join up with complete success on my TB but the arab is more problematic and I don't know what I am doing wrong. Monty teaching novices to join up might help me to identify my mistakes.

We can help there too Colin, do you have anyone who can record you try joining up with him.
Before you do, what sort of relationship do you have with your Arab? would you say he trusts you and will go anywhere with you?

I will try to get a recording. How would I posy it on line?
My arab is new and I am building up that trust. So at the moment the short answer to your question is no. He is a quick learner though and although he does look at things quite hard it doesn't take long for him to become comfortable with them. The dually halter has been great and really helped to get him to lead properly. I have been trying to get him into as many new situations as possible to teach him that new things with me are not scary and can even be fun e.g. jumping over small ditches. As I say he is a quick learner which is how I know his lack of join up is me not him.
Cheers
Colin
Hi Colin
:
Some are more sensitive than others and it can depend on what relationship you already have with the horse i.e. if one is already confident with you he will Join Up more easily and probably be more willing to forgive mistakes haha however one that's more wary may test your accuracy. As your arab is 'new' he would fall into this category.
:
There is another scenario however, if you have a VERY strong bond already some horses may be confused and wonder why on earth you are trying to send him away "just so that I can practise Join Up" (this happens a lot!).
:
The key to it is always to remember that it's a conversation and a language not a task.

Re: video, you can post it on the Monty Facebook page not on here. I won't se it as I don't use Facebook but I am sure you will get good support.
