Just watched this video. Although I am awe struck by Chromes ability to spin and Monty's Western riding skills I did find it a little disappointing. I even felt sorry for Chrome and wondered how giddy he felt - I certainly wouldn't like to spin like that. It did help me to understand why my horse Nicky is so sensitive to the leg as she was previously Western ridden. No doubt she can spin too so I should try it someday. Just interested to know how others found this video. Looking forward so much to the coming video on "Starting a Young Horse".

Hi Maggie
I just watched it and i have to say it helps me a little in knowing what cue's to give when teaching to turn but i have a horse who is at the very beginning of his saddle starting training so it wasn't much use to me as we are no where near that level! I did enjoy watching monty and chrome do their thing though! I am thinking if monty wants to show us how to begin teaching our horses to turn then we need to see it done on a horse that has NEVER done it before so we can see what issues may arise and how to deal with them.
The starting a young horse series cannot come soon enough for me! I do have the Follow Up video set so i probably shoud get that out and watch some :-)

I recently found all the Monty Roberts video's on Horse and Country TV, I loved the series called Horsemanship Essentials with Kelly Marks. If you haven't seen them they're great, there's also the backstage pass series along with the regular Monty Roberts series, check them out it haven't had a chance.
Thanks Kleinne for this. I found them too via Monty's Newsletter and have enjoyed watching them given the new videos for the Uni are so slow to come on. These ones are free too!
Western reining is an art. If you can teach this to your horse and learn it properly yourself that is the mark of a true western rider.
If you notice he says this is the beginning. Next lesson will be on a novice horse and shown how to start.
It is encouraging to see the end results so we can look forward to the next one.
I really enjoyed it but then I have experienced it as well and there is no feeling like it. Wow, what a rush and it's good for the horse as well.
Ronda
I watched a video once on western reining and wow it boggled my mind! The communication required between horse and rider is phenomenal. I hope i can get somewhere near that with Buster and i'll be happy!
Janelle
P.S Nice to see you back Ronda!
Hi Maggie,
I wondered at first how this lesson could help me, but then as Ronda says this lesson was really just showing the end result, and in the next few lessons it seems Monty will be going back to the real basics, so that should help us.
Regards,
Ruth
