Join-Ups and Riding -Three Questions

1. Is join-up recommended before each ride?  At the start of join-up, my horse only walks, then turns in to me within a few minutes, doing at least two or three of signs of relaxation (eyes toward me, head lowering, smaller circle, licking lips).
2. Is getting a trot and canter a necessary part of join-up?  It takes a lot of energy and work to get a trot and canter with just the long lines, and with a stick and flag, he will trot and canter.
3. If join-up is recommended before each ride, is it always necessary to make my horse go five to six times in both directions before attempting join-up, or can we join-up as soon as he displays the signs of relaxation?   Thank you.

Great questions! We will put these in the queue for Monty to answer while we are in Brazil.
