Years ago I tried to achieve a Join Up, but my horse never came to me, although it showed me the signs.
Last week I went to one of Monty's incredible presentations. (Lucky me that he decided to visit us in Austria:)) He explained all of the necessary steps and we could ask him everything that we wanted to know. We were just 30 people, so there was plenty of time for each of us to actually talk to Monty.
Now I know what my problem was: I never paid attention to my hands!!!! My fingers were always spread! Furthermore I always WANTED to achieve a Join Up. Maybe my horse felt some pressure.
Yesterday I wanted to give it another shot, so my horse and I walked over to the Roundpen.
Usually, I would have thought: "Let's join up!" but this time I was like:" I want to listen to you aus well! Show me what you think of my movements! We've got all day, no need to hurry!"
I never once put any pressure in.
IT WORKED!!!!! My horse came to me and I nearly cried. We also had a pretty good Follow Up.
Thank you so much, Monty! You don't know what you did for me. You are awesome.

Wow Kathi, you gave us goosebumps! It's so true that people often say their horse can't 'read them' or 'my horse won't Join-Up'. You proved it's a language. And your horse recognized what you were asking, well done!
Thank you for your kind words. I've been reading Monty's books since I was a little girl. They didn't just help me understand horses better. They also improved my "human reading skills".
I'm a primary school teacher now and want to be that kind of person that my students can rely on, and I always want to create an environment in which learning is possible. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be the person I am now if I hadn't found the confirmation I was looking for in Monty's books. I always knew that there were more possibilities in communicating and working with humans, especially kids, and horses.
It's that special kind of understanding that makes the difference. As a teacher, I'm always trying to reflect my methods to have a healthy and good relationship with my students. It's the same with horses...
My incredible horse told me yesterday that I'm on the right path...
Working with him through the years taught me quite a lot- especially never to give up
Thank you for sharing this moment Kathi. Have you noticed any difference in your horse's interactions with you since May 11 now? I would be curious if this has improved the confidence between you.
I am so glad you went to Monty's demonstration!
Always what we like to see! Monty says we can do it too and when we learn it then we can!
.
Thank you Monty for such an amazing tool to help us through.
