Gen, I was just wondering, have you taken the introductory courses yet? If so, how are they so far?

I am taking Mine in less than two months, I would also love to share my experiences with you when that time finally comes :)
Ok, that's good Almira24.
Hi Horse Addict, Gen attended my Introductory Course in September. If you are based in Australia and are interested in taking a course, I have advertised upcoming courses under this section in the forum.
Hi Horse Addict!
.
I have done my Intro in the end of October/beginning of November 2011 here in Germany and am now practicing for my fieldstudy. It is a lot of fun and a wonderful experience to me. I love the work with horses, and the owners of the horses that I am working with are often really surprised, although they do not even have real "Problem Horses". And sometimes it is even more suprising for me!
.
So if you have any more questions or something special you want to know/talk about, tell me or ask questions!
.
Best wishes from Hamburg, Germany
Jasmin
Hi Horse Addict
.
Yes, I completed the Intro Course in September with Lynn Mitchell. It was really good. I could have easily stayed there for another 10 days taking it all in.
.
I have been home for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year and have done some videos of me working with my horses to send in to Lynn for her feedback. You have to do that so you can make sure you are ready for the exams. I think the exams are going to be in April?? Not 100% sure, but will check with Lynn.
.
The types of things you have to do at home in your videos are Dually Halter work, Float/Trailer Loading, Join-Up and Long lining.
.
With the Dually Halter work, I have been working on walking my horses through a curtain of streamers, walking over a matress, walking over a tarp, walking over a bridge or board, backing up in an "L" shape and backing up around bending poles. This is also of great benefit to me because I want to show my foals as yearlings in the In-Hand Halter Classes where you have to do some of these things.
.
I can even long line Renacer and Ranger at a canter now :-)
.
During the course I found that I was doing small procedural things wrong at home, so I have had to work on correcting the bad habits I had... But I think I am on the right track now. Will find out when Lynn sees my videos I guess.
.
The course was really good for pointing out the details that you sometimes miss when you watch the Uni Videos. After doing the Intro Course I see more and also look for more in the online Uni videos now.
.
With the Intro Course you get a huge Manual which contains a LOT of information about equine behaviour, anatomy and breeding - absolutely everything. Its huge, but I am really enjoying it. I don't remember things unless I write them down, so I have made a book of questions to help me study the manual.
.
Everything I have learnt from doing the Intro Course has helped me in one way or another at home with my horses. Even with my foals. I really feel like I understand them better and I think I am reading them better as well now.
.
If you get the chance to do an Intro Course, go for it. I totally recommend it. The other really good thing about it is that you get to meet other people who are like-minded. I found that refreshing because a lot of my friends think I am quite crazy for doing what I am doing. They think I am especially crazy because I want to go to California to do the Instructor course one day if possible. So it was nice to be with people in the flesh who supported the "Monty Roberts" way.
.
Thanks for asking the question Horse Addict :-) I think I did say that I would let you know how it went, but I must have forgotten. I have been so busy with work since completing the Intro Course, and I have just recently changed jobs.
.
I am hoping to do the Advanced Course later this year if Lynn is able to run it here in Australia. Otherwise, its off to California :-D
.
Don't forget that where there is a will there is a way.
.
Kindest regards,
.
Gen
Hi Gen,
So good to read about your experiences in the Intro Course with Lynn!
When I did mine at Flag is Up Farms, she was one of the interns, it was great having her as a teacher.
You'll have to fly to Califronia for your Advanced Course, only there this course is given.
But first: good luck with your Intro-Exam! You'll make it!!!
Miriam
Hi Gen! Sounds like you've been real busy! I have a certified instructor that's in my area, but she's still pretty far though. Not sure when I can take a course, might not be in a while. I'm still job searching.
Hi Miriam
.
Thanks for the encouragement :-D I am looking forward to the exam. It will be great to work with Lynn in person again. So much more is gained by having someone watch you work and set you straight when you need it. You are spot on when you say Lynn is a great teacher ;-)
.
I was hoping that Lynn may be able to run the Advanced Course here in Australia, but if not, a trip to California will be quite an adventure :-)
.
Hi Horse Addict
.
Yes, I have been a bit busy over the last few months, that's for sure. Its great that you have a certified instructor in your area, that means that when you are ready, the training is fairly accessible to your location. That makes a big difference. At least you don't have to save up for international air fairs on top of your course fees and accomodation :-D
.
I hope you find work soon. It can be hard to get started with work at first, but once you get going, it gets easier.
.
Kind regards,
.
Gen
Thank you Gen :)I live in the USA, so I guess I am kinda lucky.
Oh Gen, hope to see your certified instructor badge here someday. ;)
Hi horse addict :-) it would be so cool if we were both able to have them ;-)
