To Make the World a Better Place for Horses

Horse Neglect

Hello!

I have recently been after the spca in my area about 23 horses that were starving. After a month of phoning I found out that 4 of the horses turned out to be a woman who had no idea of their state. She took her 4, then two days later I had the rest removed by spca. Unfortunatly 3 horses died before they could be seized. When we investigated the pasture further, we found 3 more carcasses. The dead horses included 3 foals and a mare that was in foal and almost to term. Hopefully this woman is charged and not allowed any more animals!

I thank you for taking responsibility to see that the authorities were brought in on this matter. It takes guts to stand up and say "hey, that's not right", and the horses that will survive this ordeal have you to thank for it.

These are hard times for a lot of folks, and unfortunately, animals come as a lower priority when it comes to feeding and housing costs. However, I can't help but feel that in many cases, it comes back to pride, and not wanting to ask for help. Monty and many other top horsepeople have stated in various ways that ego should have nothing to do with working with horses. And although they were for the most part speaking of training, I believe these types of situations again illustrate the need to take the lack of ego to heart. It is hard to ask for help, but when lives are at stake, even animal ones, you simply must reach out.

Bless you again for your bravery, and say a prayer that those horses who lost their battle will find new, strong foal bodies that are loved and well cared for by their dams and their humans alike.

Hello!

Your actions are something to be proud of. You couldn't save them all, but you have helped most and that is good. You also might have inspired others to do something similar in other places. Thanks for your kindness.

Well done, that must be a terrible situation to be in, I dont think I would like to be in that position, I dont think the owner would get very far away if it had been me who found them,
Good think it wasnt me.

I am Glad you were successful!

Going Through This Kind of Ordeal sticks with you for the rest of your life. It will be harder for you now, because you will see the signs sooner. Please Be Brave and find a way to help the next person you see in this situation. Many times education brought in a Caring Understanding Way with no finger pointing can stop this kind of situation before it gets to the point of no return. Once it get to the point of the average person noticing the owner is either to embarrassed or stubborn to fix it.

As you found out it usually takes Loss Of Life to get anything done through the authorities. Don't Blame the Authorities most of the time their hands are tied while building a case. Call and keep calling, Get everyone to call. When that fails call the media.

Thank God there are people like you willing to step in and take a stand for these precious horses. It is everyone's responsibility to report any neglect, abuse they see. Thanks for being a caring, decent human being.
